S.PELLEGRINO YOUNG CHEF PACIFIC REGION SEMI-FINAL COOK-OFF
On Monday 26 August 2019, Kate & Co. managed the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Pacific Region Semi-Final cook off event.
Hosted at Sydney Seafood School, located above the iconic Sydney Fish Market, the largest international culinary competition in the world saw 10 of Australia and New Zealand’s hottest up-and-coming chefs jousting for the revered title of Pacific Region Young Chef.
The Pacific Region contestants were the first in the world to battle it out, ahead of 11 other semi-finals around the globe, running from August through to December 2019.
The Young Chef contestants had five hours to complete their proposed dish, which was then presented to the judging panel, a line-up of five of the finest culinary names in the country - Peter Gilmore, Executive Chef at Quay (Sydney); Jock Zonfrillo, Chef and Owner at Restaurant Orana and Bistro Blackwood (Adelaide); Danielle Alvarez, Head Chef at Fred’s (Sydney); Dan Hunter, Chef and Owner at Brae Restaurant (Victoria); and Christine Manfield (Sydney), a leader in the hospitality industry.
Guided by their chosen mentor, the Young Chefs commenced the cook-off with fervent fire in their bellies, plating up world-class tantalising dishes incorporating interesting ingredients such as emu bush, manna gum branches, wild venison and cloud ear mushrooms.
Kate & Co. hosted multiple VIP media guests at the cook-off including Cuisine Magazine (New Zealand), and Australia’s premier industry publication Hospitality Magazine, inviting them to personally experience the excitement from inside the kitchen.
Following the cook-off, four award winners were announced by National Good Food Guide Editor Myffy Rigby at a lavish dinner event at est. Sydney. The S.Pellegrino Young Chef Award was taken out by Jose Lorenzo Morales from Lûmé, Melbourne. Three other contestants also received awards.
Jose will now prepare to take on 11 other Young Chef finalists from around the world at the Grand Finale in Milan on 8th and 9th May 2020.
Kate & Co. were responsible for managing cook-off event logistics end to end, a six-month media relations campaign, VIP media guest liaison, and photography and videography, plus door management at the dinner event.
